USWNT Ripped For Celebrations After Abysmal Display

Carli Lloyd was not happy the U.S. almost crashed out of the World Cup.

USWNT celebrations

The USWNT may be through to the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup, but the way they celebrated their narrow escape from the group stages isn't sitting well with their former captain. Carli Lloyd, now a pundit, tore into the team's performance and their celebrations after a 0-0 draw with Portugal.

“I have never witnessed something like that. There’s a difference between being respectful of the fans and saying hello to your family. But to be dancing and smiling, I mean the player of the match was that post. You are lucky not to be going home right now!”

While Lloyd’s words may seem harsh to some fans, the USWNT has yet to put its best foot forward in the tournament. Despite some of the best forwards in the world, the team has managed to find the back of the net just four times in three games.

When asked to respond, USWNT Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski said: "To question the mentality of this team, to question the willingness to win, to compete... I think it's insane."
