SPFL: Round 2 summary

Hello and welcome! Here are your results from the second round of fixtures for the 22/23 Scottish Premiership Football League.

Aberdeen 4-1 St. Mirren

In front of 14,420 fans, a St. Mirren match again involving a red card. This time however the Buddies were on the receiving end with Declan Gallagher given his second booking in the 23rd minute. Bojan Miovski (24' pen, 37') scored a brace, including a penalty. Leighton Clarkson 45' added to the Buddies' misery by adding another one just before half time (assisted by Matthew Kennedy. The only consolidation in this one for St. Mirren was the lone goal by Jonah Ayunga 53' from the spot. Duk '87 rounded things off for the Dons for a comfortable Aberdeen win.

Aberdeen next face Motherwell / St. Mirren next face Ross County

Motherwell 1-2 St. Johnstone

4,711 witness were able to see St. Johnstone score all three goals this past weekend in what was nearly an embarrassing affair. The Saints went up through Jamie Murphy 28' (assisted by Thelonius Bair), only to score an own goal by the means of Graham Carey 90'+1! Although unfortunate, the Saint's were able to recover and Stevie May 90'+4 (assisted by Ryan McGowan) scores to ensure all three points for St. Johnstone.

Motherwell next face Aberdeen / St. Johnstone next face Rangers

Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnock

Ibrox housed 49,600 fans in this one-sided contest, with Rangers keeping 73% possession overall. Goals from Antonio-Mirko Colak 51' (assisted by Tom Lawrence) and Alfredo Morelos 88' keep Rangers in second place behind Celtic.

Rangers next face St. Johnstone / Kilmarnock next face Celtic

Ross County 1-3 Celtic

It took until the second half for the 5,502 fans inside Global Energy Stadium (what a name) to see a goal. Kyogo Furuhashi scored after the restart in the 48' (assisted by Jota), with a response from the home side 10 minutes later through Alex Iacovitti 58' (assisted by Owura Edwards). Celtic proved to bee too much however, with late goals scored by new signing Moritz Jenz 84' (assisted by Jota) and Liel Abada 90'+1 (assisted by once again, Jota).

Ross County next face St. Mirren / Celtic next face Kilmarnock

Hibernian 1-1 Hearts

Sharing of the points here at Easter Road, with 20,179 fans in attendance for this Sunday matchup. One would have to say a draw seems an fair result, with both sides tallying 12 shots against each other. Lawrence Shankland (assisted by Barrie McKay) put the away side up first in the 22nd minute. Hibs were able to save some face deep into stoppage time with Martin Boyle 90'+5 (assisted by Thody Elie Youan) keeping a point home.

Hibernian next face Livingston / Hearts next face Dundee United

Dundee United 0-1 Livingston

7,442 fans at Tannadice Park will have to continue their wait to see United win their first match of the season as Christian Montano's 49th minute strike (assisted by Nicky Devlin) took all three points away.
